by Kelley Barnett, FAAM Founder & Coordinator I remember taking a computer science class in high school and learning programming language basics. One of the first assignments was to write code for the sentence, "Hello world." I remember wondering why we couldn't write our own sentence, something cool like "Kelley wuz hea", or whatever silliness teenagers wrote back in the day. It's not like anyone else even saw it. However, today it's a very fitting sentence. Hello world. This is my introduction to the public via Food for Thought, FAAM's blog that I hope will greet and support many people in our food allergy world. ![]() I feel giddy with excitement, yet vulnerable at the same time. The world is a big and scary place sometimes. Food allergies can make the world seem even scarier. That's why FAAM was created, to make our food allergy world seem smaller, more connected, and not as scary as we learn together and support each other. I'm thrilled to introduce you to the Food Allergy Alliance of the MidSouth. FAAM's mission is to provide support, education and advocacy in Memphis and the surrounding areas. Dr. Jay Lieberman is excited to serve as FAAM's medical advisor. We are also pleased to have Blair Mize and Brigid Kay work as a team to serve as FAAM's nutrition advisors. Our goal is to work together, with our volunteers (YOU!), to build a strong foundation for this organization. I encourage you to read about our mission and goals, take a peek at our plans for 2016, review the literature we have available to help us spread the word in the community, and join us! Our big kickoff is on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 6:00pm. Dr. Jay Lieberman will present "Immunotherapy & Food Allergy: the 'Nuts' & Bolts" at St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett in the Magnolia Room. I invite you to join us for a very informative evening. Be sure to RSVP and we'll have a seat waiting for you! Email us with any questions or ideas and let us know if want to be involved as a FAAM Advocate. We have big plans for 2016 and they can't happen without YOU!
